That’s another item to be started after the Xmas break, engage a highways contractor to lay the duct under the road, I assume they will lay to the appropriate depth as defined by the council highways dept. I will bear in mind the idea of two ducts but I would imagine one 4” would give me enough space for the ev cable and another couple of heavy guage cables to allow me to transfer power from ground mount solar in the garden to the cottage and have a power supply in my bunker.

When I laid my ducting for my EV charger, I also got these https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01 ... UTF8&psc=1
to seal the ends. I drilled a suitable hole near the edge and slit the wall and I have a tight seal to stop rain and/or vermin going into the ducting.
Also two smaller ducts might be preferable. Easier to handle and avoids worrying about because of two close together cables not dissipating heat as efficiently and thus warming up and with increased resistance. Probably overkill but.......
This is probably a really daft question - I'm thinking about getting an EV charger installed at the same time as my heatpump to avoid double work for electricians.
Am I right in thinking that the Type 2 7kW charger will charge pretty much anything, including the Nissan leaf etc CHADEMO vehicles?

I bought a Ohme Home Pro charger (so I could get IOG tariff) and it has a Type 2 cable so I needed an adapter to go between it and my 2011 Nissan Leaf.
If you want to maximise compatibility with the older EVs with ChaDeMo ports, don't get a "tethered" home charger but an "untethered one" that was the Leaf driver can use their own ChaDeMo to Type 2 cable.

Next daft question - for those with EV chargers and battery systems - do they need to be wired in a certain way so you can control if the charger takes power from the battery or not - ie if the inverter/battery system sees the EV charger as a load?
I guess if you are charging on IOG, then it is likely to be overnight, and quite likely charging the batteries at the same time.
But, if you are trying to charge using excess PV - say if IOG disappears at some point and it does make sense to use PV to charge.
I'm just trying to see if anything special is needed if I get the ASHP engineers to wire in the charger at the same time.
They are currently proposing to run 1 large cable from the main consumer unit to a mini consumer unit to run both heat pump & EV charger , as the HP and charger will be in roughly the same place and 10-15 metres from the consumer unit
