When roof panels won't fit
Is there a good reason or planning consideration in UK where the south facing roof is hipped why the framework for the panels cannot be extended beyond the hip . I can see wind loading would be a potential problem.

Re: When roof panels won't fit
From memory I think there is a 200mm rule so it probably can slightly. I have a slight overhang over the edge of my kitchen extension roof were its advantageous to minimise shading.
Triangular panels are also available to help with this problem of hipped roofs.
