Stupid GMail

Usually use Firefox, now trying to get in to Gmail online as I'm sure there is "Spam" I ought to delete or view, but I can't get in.
After looking for advice online I am now trying via a a private window, but get the attached ludicrous "type this word" instruction. Any ideas - or how to get something more user-friendly? I can't make head nor tail of the garbled rubbish that comes if you click the speaker icon either!
And from a private window I can't attach an image either... Will have to be via an edit.

we must be different generations. I just don't get it. Is it a word to be recognised? If you don't know it I think those letters are completely indistinguishable/unintelligible.
Sadly I imagine the timescales are too tight for me to post the next scribble here for an interpretation!
