If you want to ignore the fully charged video & go to the site..

I was looking at the roof solar & wondered if a clip fold unit that could be folded down to cover the front & rear windows (offering some internal heat protection too maybe) could be utilised for days out parked up in the open, would likely double up the potential size of the roof solar, useful for topping off, stop n' shop range & recovery potential.

By that I mean a fold & twist bracket mechanism, maybe with strong magnetic body fixings / clip / boa tighteners (as in the trainer, snowboard boot lacing system which is a doozy)

I continue to be mentally hung up on thin film and times direct relation to irradiation & panel efficiency regarding ongoing miles stored

Is there a point where panel/thinfilm efficiency will allow enough recharge at say 20mph and with regen to keep that battery depletion curve relatively flat in good solar conditions. 🤔 I groove on thoughts like this. :)
15kW PV SE, VI, HM, EN
42kWh LFPO4 storage
73kWh V2H EV
7kW ASHP
200ltr HWT.
3G
Deep insulation, air leak ct'd home
WBSx2
Low energy bulbs
Veg patches & fruit

The spec is 20km (12.4 miles) per day (EU Summer) on the solar so I doubt you would be able to drive slow enough. At 20mph you will have used a whole days solar in about 37 minutes.
18.7kW PV > 111MWh generated
Ripple 6.6kW Wind + 4.5kW PV > 34MWh generated
7 Other RE Coop's
105kWh EV storage
90kWh Home battery storage
40kWh Thermal storage
GSHP + A2A HP's
Rain water use > 530 m3

Thin film additions and the full four batteries it is then. :o

There will come a tipping point when solar cell efficiency, battery energy density improvements bring this close. I would absolutely love to get a hold of a small EV, strip it and see what could be done on the weight factor and solar additions. Purely for the 'what if'of it. :ugeek:

Yeah, I'm aware and have been aware but that's uni's and corp's. I'm more interested in a normal shaped vehicle that you can go to the shops in 😉 and it be fully charged independent of grid or when you come back out or after a coffee and read of a paper. Also the convergence of the tech advancements in everyday purchasable gear that can then be added to improve the vehicle. I see something cool in that 😎 that I don't get from the world solar challenge, impressive though it certainly is..

At least you have a picture of what the replaceable battery units look like. Just need to make them so that you can use them as your home battery bank as well as the car.
