Hiya OGB, that's reminded me. Back around 1990 my Dad got a new Ford Escort, and I showed him that the temperature control was voice activated. I'd sit in the drivers seat and say 'hotter' or 'colder' and the temp dial/knob would slowly revolve. He's not very gullible but I got him trying it, and it never worked for him, even suggesting he needs to be in the drivers seat. It was only when he decided to pop to the dealer and explain how it doesn't work for him, that I came clean.
Just to the left of my left foot was the pivot point where the cable from the dial went into an anchor, then another cable went through to the engine bay / heater matrix. I could gently turn the pivot/anchor with the top of my shoe, without any apparent movement visible. It was fun, but I just couldn't let him go to the dealership and look like a fool in front of the mechanics.
