Discount Dragon (pointer from Mr Gus), gotta love it.

The beer, peanut butter, sauce, one box of T bags (the rest go to Turkey) for the van. Choclate bunny for swmbo.

The Jalapeños will be frozen down on trays and bagged up.

Even the kitchen rolls (1p) will be split between van & home.

:D

Changeover switch in and tested. The only thing I can't run off the PV is hot water immersion. For that I need to use the gas or a kettle if I'm remote off grid. Last time I was that remote was Serbia. :D

Image

Edit, on reflection the water immersion electric has two elements hence settings. I was trying at 1500W

I've reduced it to 750W and will try again later.

The radio & fridge are running, have been for a couple of hours and the green battery full just lit up. :) A very pleasant place to be and a little unexpected tbh, but in a good way.

It is nice to have all sockets now PV powered.. we are looking at France and down Atlantic coast to Spain for a couple of weeks. Any recommendations appreciated.

Many years ago I spent some time in San Sebastian at the hotel Maria Cristina whilst viewing some machinery my workplace was thinking of buying. I was really impressed by the area, nice and green unlike southern Spain.

Thanks Iain, I'll give it whirl. San Sebastian & Biarritz i think, mucho gracias senor.

Sad news today, van of enormous power Mk3 massively failed its MOT. Too much structural work needing done, fortunately it had a couple of weeks ticket left on it so I punted it to WEe buy any car.

Thinking VW caddy or similar. VEP Mk3 was a a LWB high transit Connect. Any advice on the state of vans these days appreciated for our next purchase? I hear Ford have went wet belt? That's a £1,500 repair every 60k, not a fan of that...

My understanding is the VW EA288 engine (1.6 and 2.0 Diesel) has a teeny wet belt powering the oil pump. The reason most people haven't heard about it is because they are super reliable.

On the other hand everyone knows about the wet belt in the Ford EcoBoost because they are a maintinance nightmare!

I was looking at VW caddy maxi yesterday and Nissan ENV200. Looking to get some range confirmation off a few of the Nissan sellers. I don't know what happened to Ford, sad really. Thanks Stinsy, info much appreciated.

ENV200s get a lot of love. However, type1/ChaDeMo charging port and 75miles of motorway range in winter severely limits the usefulness.

Can your budget stretch to a Vauxhaull Combo electric?

3x 380W JA Solar panels (1.14kWp)

Could do, I'd set a 9k limit in my mind. This looks a decent unit?

SWMBO said yesterday "how about a cheap EV with tailgate and we just rip the back seats out"? :xl:

That one looks very tidy. The vast majority of used electric vans seem to have been very well looked after.

They did a Zoe commercial!
