MG5 with Zappi on Octopus intelligent go

#1

Post by openspaceman »

My daughter changed her car from Kona to MG5 and also her tariff to IOG. Account is running but the charger behaves quite differently from when charging the Kona, When plugged into car and set on Eco 2 leaves it always draws 1.5ish from home battery plus whatever solar PV is available until the home battery depletes. Despite an export margin being set.

At night when plugged in on eco 1 leaf it is failing to charge during the off peak period. I have asked her to reboot the zappi just in case this makes a difference.

Has anyone else this combination and go it working?

I think the fact that the zappi is on the same consumer unit as the house is an ongoing issue here.

Is the Zappi integrated into IOG or the car? If the Zappi is integrated then the make of car really doesn't matter at all, it's a Zappi troubleshooting issue.
What do the current flows look like on the Zappi screen with the car connected and disconnected?

I gather the MG5 has no settings other than plug it in so all control is via the zappi.

Unfortunately I am 50 miles away so only get to see the zappi on visits and then never during the charging period.

Can the zappi app be on more than one cellphone?

Is the firmware on the Zappi upto date? I know there have been various changes to the firmware. I asume it is a Zappi 2 - I dont have one yet but looking at it when we next change car, I do have an Eddi.

I have asked, I am not sure about the model, it was installed March 23.

Thanks for the link, I'll get her to register.

One thing to note - if the Zappi was integrated into IOG then Octopus should always be forcing it into Eco++ mode from Eco or fast:

I think you mean eco with one leaf as eco with two leaves should only charge using excess solar PV power. Your link says eco and one leaf.

This makes sense as this should top up with grid electricity when there is little or no solar, at night cheap rate there is no solar power.

Octopus should force the Zappi into "two leaves" Eco from "one leaf" Eco or fast. You then control the amount of grid you are happy to pull with the "leaf" slider in the MyEnergi app. With IOG, this should always be set to 100% to avoid battery drain or grid pull.

In the Octopus app, does the Device tab say "Charge to add" or "Charge Limit"?

My daughter is at work now so I cannot say.

I am wondering if I could also have the app on my phone to see what is going on.

I think that'd be fine, as long as your daughter can securely send her credentials to you
