If you ever reconsider, yes they are slow growers but none of that naff lleyandi? burn that you are working around now. (ie the thing that should be put up in the first place) they are very shade tolerant, so can be hidden somewhat till they bush out, ..so easy to propagate (do it) being sturdy & climate resistant, a great wind block etc.
(they also sell that mature garden look with aplomb)
Big leaves (variety dependent) that can be swept up compared to the mess from the regular garden offenders. (yeah my neighbour doesn't put a tarp down on their hedge on our side & it killed the grass)

You need to paint it in the style of Mondrian.
Had to look him up Iain, quite a bit beyond me and my womble, ate that's close enough projects! I am getting it to a uniform colour and I'll continue the uniform log slice and debarking of same in amongst the weather & T.
SWMBO requested that no screw heads show so its all being fixed in place from rear. It won't be a quick job but should look good once done (around Autumn).
As I was painting it I kept thinking about fixing PV to it!

Rain stopped play. Managed a few slices with solar powered chainsaw, debarked too. Wee workshop smells ace of pine resin! One slice thinned out poorly and had a carbuncle. A good chance to straight edge two sides and trial in place.
I'll get back into it tomorrow.

Was chucking it down here as well.
That's the good thing about being retired/economically inactive you can set your own start/stop times and there is always tomorrow!

Also started work on a pallet wall which will be used to improve a view of a sun scorched hedge section (used to be a greenhouse there years ago).
Are you are going to stuff the rear of those pallets with a variety of bug-friendly bedding? Straw in some, bundles of hollow stems in others, some clay drainage pipes near the bottom...
