Probably couldn't take the sight of all those bingo wings & self destructed.
I like the way the reporter "thinks" that it was the only wind turbine affected in his professional journalistic opinion, ...bearing in mind only one of many in sight was noticeably ON FIRE

Lightning strikes are a major PITA for wind turbines - tall pointy thing out in the open and full of electronics.

It's funny that the current BBC headline is
Scroby Sands wind turbine fire off Norfolk coast self extinguishes
It looks like "burns out" to me!

20 year old wind farm with 2MW turbines. Offshore wind turbine capacity increased by a factor of 7 over the period. Staggering.

and if 1 turbine goes down, then it does. (All) the rest keep working. Unlike a turbine failure in a ff or nuclear plant, when 25% or even 50%(?) go offstream...

There is a smaller (though still large) version in Paris near Pont de Grenelle on the Ile aux Cygnes

Thanks, never been to paris & think the eiffel tower is ugly as hell ..no visit desired when there are better things to do & places to be, ..although in modern timessiting a small liberte under the eiffel tower would be too much for both baitiing & reeling in the yanks

Paris used to be one of our favourite cities. Last went in 2010 for Mrs BtB’s birthday.
Really disappointing - felt so different to our previous visits and seemed very up itself.
Haven’t had any desire to go back - plenty more better places to see.
