Isn't Bioethanol basically used as an additive to petrol, in an attempt to make it a "greener" fuel than just petrol alone?
So if we're now going to get it all from teh US, ie shipped across the Atlantic, that's putting a lot of fuel miles on a fuel that's supposed ot lower its greenhouse gas emissions?!

Wonder how much corn production is set aside in the US for bioethanol rather than food?

i just wish the farce would stop. Area for area PV produces more energy than the crop for bio fuels. It is madness -probably dreamt up by the FF industry in the first place. Get rid.

Solar photovoltaic (PV) systems generally produce significantly more energy per unit of land area compared to biofuel production. PV systems can generate over 100 times more usable energy per hectare than bioenergy crops on most of the world's land. This is primarily because PV systems have higher energy conversion efficiency and can utilize land not suitable for agriculture, while bioenergy crops often compete with food production for land and resources.

I think the EU is beginning to have 2nd doubts as well.

Use a fraction of the biofuel land for pv to give the equivalent energy and thus save on food imports AND biofuel AND get back some independence from the mad world.

^this.

“Biofuel” is nothing more than the FF industry trying to delay the switch to renewables by pretending to be slightly cleaner than they used to be.

This^^^ and more.

Once installed, the oil input, to maintain a PV site is somewhat less than required for establishing and harvesting the bio crop - along with fertilisers, pesticides, etc., which all add up….
