More Renewable Shenanigans at Nowty Towers

So couldn’t sleep, got up early, walked into the family room and saw the oven screen blink 5am…

I now need to take detox break, as the first thought was great, it’s a bit cooler in here, let’s get the oven on for 30 minutes….

I know who to blame for this!!

30 mins of cheapslot left at 5am, you know it makes sense.

My bricks still get used during the Octopus free power hours, a single tray of them takes the full hour to heat up and many hours of slow released heat.

I received a resounding nope! for A2A conditioning heat source but she will still consider the A2A HP route after we finish gathering our years worth of information and running costs. Interestingly enough our 47kg LPG cylinders went up to £76 quid (+£4) each last time I ordered one a few weeks back, once cylinder seems to last us between 6 and 10 weeks presently - that's sourcing the DHW and some central heating although we are still not using it consistently yet as we are maintaining around 20degrees most days with dog and human heating.

I looked at cosy octopus for the MiL earlier and pondered the heat pump element of the requirements as we have a mobile air con unit that heats as well as cools - the |HP heating side is 2.6kW heating capacity so I believe it fits the criteria and would be a better tariff than her present one.

I would just need to arrange for an outside vent point but I think that's already accommodated for by a defunct tumble dryer vent point in her utility room ?

yes just checked and she does have and extract point and water drainage point

Sticking an A2A unit in is a no-brainer if you're on bottle gas. The faff of ordering a new bottle and dealing with delivery etc. would be a big motivating factor!

Its not me who needs convincing - the MiL is very sceptical and the boss has other priorities for the cash which at this time of year I am in agreement with.

However, seeing as I had the portable in the wardrobe doing nothing for the winter period and seeing as we are charging the batteries to the tune of 750watts (HPTD is running otherwise it would be more) I thought I would quickly deploy the portable air conditioner unit to an upstairs position and set it up to see how efficient it was at heating - also a useful real time example to other in the house

Not a pretty set up but air vent through window, towels bunged in around it to stop cold air entering - condensate to a glass vase to collect and empty as required and temperature on unit set to 28 degrees and away we go.

Ten minutes in and already notably warmer in the small bedroom and out onto the landing - appropriate noise from the boss

Might have to kick the test in to the long grass now though as the suns gone behind a cloud and with the HPTD running the batteries have started to discharge and I want the power for tonight to get us through to the next charge slot.

But I think its fair to say that this would be sufficient to heat the MiL's place nicely and be compliant with the cosy tariff requirements as well as being able to cool them in the event of a hot summer anytime in the future - maybe once she has tried it she will like the effects and prefer a better form factor than the mobile unit ?

Forgot to say, being that everyone up here has LPG the delivery and change over is done by the local lads at the coal merchants and its effortless, the only real faff is if the bottle runs out and your in the shower while the wife has taken the kids to school, then its a quick cold rinse off and get dry dressed and outside to switch over to the standby bottle then a text or voice message and within 3 days the bottle has miraculously been changed by lads - that reminds me i must buy them their tub of biscuits for xmas

Glad to hear the aircon heat pump is working well. Just had a thought. We had an air circulation floorvent in our stairway hall space for gas regs. I wonder if it would be worth making up a barbed plate and rest of year neat cover and venting the HP into the underfloor cavity on ground floor? I think that's my top idea for the day!

I changed my router a couple of months back and I could not remember how to reset the WiFi on the A2A units. I've been using the remote control since then but today I found the instructions of how to reset it.

I could not remember step 1, nor find anything online, every manufacturer seems to have a different method.

Usually with hieat pumps, you press and hold two buttons until you see the wifi indicator start flashing quickly - worth a stab in the dark for anyone in a similar situation and lost the instructions. And remember most Smart devices don't work on 5GHz...and a lot of routers now default to 5GHz, which can be a bit of a pain in setting stuff up.

Yep getting hot here too, left for work with All blinds/curtains closed and was really nice coming into a cooler house

I have had the cooling on the last 2 days, new heat pump has a different set up though and just getting to grips with it.
