That's good going! :D Grey skies up here today with barometric dropping. Still generating 1.2 to 1.5kW which passes the Clockmanfra test of 1kW in poor conditions. I wonder if he sold his place in France?

Nice sunny weather down here, some clouds, but not bad.

Wednesday saw new records, 85.19 generated and 89.77 exported, we usually import around 29 kWh each day - I fully charge the batteries and run the house from the grid between 23:30 to 05:30.

PS. Vaillant app reports 3.4 for hot water this month.

Congratulations on the PB's and that is a great DHW cop. Has it all settled in now the ashp i mean, reads like it has? Sun has come out and we are generating a bit over 8kW now. Long may it continue across all the Shires! :D

The home is recharging via solar gain. That was a two day grey sky test and it managed it well. Heating has been off for quite a while now. SWMBO is back home today so a pleasant surprise for her.

I still need to tidy up/replace some of the external insulation, I've got it, just need to do it. Hot water wise its working perfectly, never run out, and at 55c its plenty hot enough, averaging 3.16 kWh a day to run the heat pump for hot water.

I've moved the outdoor sensor, it was on a ESE wall, I've now mounted it on a NNE wall, it does get rather warm in the early morning sun, but come winter that won't be a problem.

Well that's three weeks the rad heating side of ashp has been off for. We've had some favourable weather so can't put it all on the 3G upgrades.

Nonetheless I can say that it is now apparent that the 3G balances out the home to an incredible degree.. By this I mean it let's in less solar gain but just doesn't release it. This means (and I know it sounds obvious) that the peaks and troughs across a week's cycle are massively flattened. Makes for a far gentler home environment.

Doesn't mean the home can supply its own heat though ( beyond internal heat sources). With this in mind and noticing a slight nip (20.1 degs indoors, 11.6 deg outdoor low & damp) I was on the horns of a dilemma...

Fire up the air heating side of ashp or burn some timber scrap from Vanport log store adjustment?

It's only going one way eh? :D

Image

It gives me a chance to burn some 2 year dry bark, run up the flue temp and then slam it back for a 4 log (hand size) slow burn.

We started at 20.1 upstairs and it increased to 21.1 degs. The upstairs sensor is at least 100ft from the heat source.

Downstairs cleared 23 degs and I am now testing for heat retention over a few days.

Bear in mind, this is a slow, deliberate 4 small, hand sized log heat soak, first artificial heat in the home in three weeks.

4 small logs across three weeks is a brand new all singing, all dancing record. The game now is what can the original build fabric, limited yet retro upgraded envelope provide in the way of heat retention?

Hoping it can still be indoor neutral at high single figure outdoor temps with some solar gain. Definitely worth the installation hassles. Product itself was easy enough to go in, just the supply chain failures. Upbeat & happy is where I now am. :D

To close out my wee test set. I've run the ashp last night for an hour. It only needed that to bring the house up.

Around 15 degs outdoors and heat curve set to 0.2. Bear in mind that the graphs are only for within the 1hr run so it is screenshot type cop figure yet accurate in what it did in that 1hr, air heating only.

I now know what the system can do in reasonable conditions. Leaving it set at 19degs and 0.2HC. We'll see when it next kicks in for air heating. Down to 9degs with WBS on low & slow too is now known.

The 3G has been the finisher for us. Basically it has allowed all of our other insulation works to shine through rather than being compromised by the 28 sq mtr of 2-3 deg 24/7 heatsucking 2G.

3G= Game changer. :xl:
