Same here, we came to them late in life. A locksmith mate switched us onto them. They are also being fitted to the rear and side doors.

It's 03.00hrs and I'm up prowling about the house. Just had another look at the front door. :xl:

I can't fault the installation at all. The young fella doing it is absolutely excellent. Highly meticulous in nature & execution.

Out of the three guys who own the company the blame falls squarely on one of them for not checking lead times on exotic glass at the very beginning, assuming it would be 3 weeks and leaving the final measurements and ordering until late late in the 5 month available window and generally being a passive little bi**h with no fallback plan.

I let him know all this yesterday. He was still trying to do the whole "a big boy did it and ran away, routine, what was I meant to do"? Blaming the Window supply company etc.

Well he knows now.

Critical path and event cascades are now in the young fellas lexicon and hopefully develop in his way of thinking. As he's one of the Co directors too and the youngest I've made sure he learned from this experience. With no embarrassment i called it "The £500 lesson". What they collectively take from it is up to them.

I've given them pointers and there is a letter highlighting in a constructive fashion what they need to work on. They'll get that at the end. Whether they act on it or not is on them? I hope they do because they've got a good little Co on the go but they need to tighten up on a few points and lose all passivity. It does them no favours.

I'd still recommend them as their collective heart is in the right place and the end product we are being left with is outstanding.

Let's see what happens Thursday & Friday.

With a thumb turn is there any way to prevent the door being unlocked from the inside?

Picture the scenario, someone smashes a small window (may be not in Joe's case with his triple glazing) and gains entry, they can then very easily open all external doors that have thumb turns, and thus walk out with whatever they want, maybe even the entire home contents. It may even void you're home insurance.

If you have a letter box, it may be possible to reach through and turn the thumb turn.

Insurance companies don’t like thumb turns. I remember decades ago reading that they were called out by several as invalidating cover (not sure if that is still the case). The problem is with burglaries, most go in through a window, if their egress is also through the window it limits what they can take. However a non-deadlocked front door means you get cleared out…

I’ve seen a lot more thumbturns recently though, so maybe insurance companies have softened.

Yes i remember this too, must have been before multi locking doors were more common, as I see new estates with 5 lever euro style lock on the outside and thumb turn in the inside.

Oh look, no glazing....

Apparently the Window supply company didn't gave a big enough van today to get the unit(s) up. Tomorrow instead with installation commencing Friday. Sounds like a load of old bollocks to me.

Luckily the vanport is a much enjoyed distraction 😀
