Had a read, have to remember to plug in the EV to qualify.
Looks likes it only free EV charging ... And not for the whole house (if on intelligent octopus go) so... 7p x 6.5kW (max car charge ish). 45.5p saved 😕
Where is the fun in that? And if there is excess electric on the grid why does it matter if it goes in your car or runs your dishwasher?
There is none!

Here's the spiel from the email:

I'm going to use this session for the hard part of a Blackcurrant Jam session. i.e. the sustained boil at temp >= 104 deg C.

I'll set the inverter to Charge the battery, which is already 100%-ish. This is intended to stop the battery discharging and ensure the full load is taken from GRID.

Hot jam burns are inevitable :pot-stir: , but the results are far better than any shop product.

it has turned out to be ideal for me to charge my battery, as I did a full export 4 to 7 pm yesterday and today has been overcast so far, I'm only back up to 53% now! Should be able to export full bore again this evening after this...

30 solar thermal tubes, 2MWh pa in Stockport, plus Congleton and Kinlochbervie Hydros,

I wonder if between 2-3pm all household electricity is charged at peak rate or the off peak rate it normally is when you charge the car and get a slot?

Would be quite sneaky of octopus and a revenge attack on the ones who game a slot.

Let you charge for free for the hour that usually costs 7p/kWh and use loads of electricity in that hour while it's charging cos all usage is then 7pkWh.

But... Then charge you for all other electricity you use at 30p/kWh in that hour and just get the car charging for free!
