Re: Xlinks snub
No worries Mart. I look at it as in infinite resource. Cheers. Hi Joe. TBH, whilst I love the idea, I've always been pessimistic about its chances. I don't know if it's possible yet, but large scale long duration energy storage in the UK, appropriately distributed, would solve the issue that the Xl...

Re: 100 solar panels per second in China.
Ken, try this one on your friends. I was recently at a wedding anniversary party for my neighbours. They held it at their daughter's property as it's a small holding, so room for an outside gathering. A guy I've never met before saw me appreciating the property, that had been fully restored and mode...

Re: Xlinks snub
I can understand concerns about cable damage, especially with all the Russian heavy trawlers 'accidentally' dragging their anchors repeatedly across cable routes, but I've never understood the concerns about a country's politics etc. These schemes are totally different to gas and oil pipelines, whe...

Re: Xlinks snub
Just to add, in the interest of fairness, I think the article is quoting an old and low figure for the link at £48/MWh. I'm sure I recognise that number from the past, but I don't know if it was ever 'official'. Looking at the Xlinks FAQ, they have a far more (I think) reasonable figure of £70-£80, ...

Re: Xlinks snub
Could it be because of this line (my bold): The government's move to snub Xlinks after protracted talks with the company will come as a surprise to energy industry executives given the company's pledge to deliver large quantities of power at a price roughly half of that to be generated by new nuclea...

Solar and storage for everyone (except perhaps Birmingham)
Interesting report from Ember looking at the cost of leccy from PV backed up by storage. For sunny example locations like Las Vegas, or cities in Africa, Middle East, they suggest that 6GW of solar and 17GWh of storage can provide 1GW 24hr power for ~95% of the year. And at a cost of just over $100/...

Re: China hits 1 TW solar milestone!
Those numbers are simply staggering. And I appreciate that May's 92GW figure is a spike, but that alone represents an annualised rate of 1.1TWp.
Last year China installed more PV capacity than the US ........ sorry, more than the US's total capacity to date.

Re: Geothermal
I don't see why every new-build housing estate cannot come with a borehole. You could then pump the water round the UFH in every house. You can get to 35℃ somewhere between 500-1000m underground, it'd cost £50-100k to drill the borehole. Think about a housing development of 250 houses. Even taking ...

Re: New Nissan Leaf
Its a bit of a shame it's turning into yet another CUV, but I guess that's what sells... Under the skin it's actually sitting on the same platform as the Ariya, so therefore related to the Renault Megane and Scenic EVs... And I think the Nissan Micra is closely related to the Renault 5. So the comp...
