Re: Panel mounting system for steel sheet roof?
Yeah, those "mole" screws do a really great job of forming a thread through and under the sheet.

Re: Panel mounting system for steel sheet roof?
I did an array on a trapezoidal sheet roof with these (well, a previous model) 5-10 years ago. K2 Mini Rails with CT1? But on old, cheap, painted, thin tin, not the heavier stuff you have. No sealant required. They've weather all storms, including several that have caused other roof damage to skylig...

Re: A project crying out to be done!
If you grid connect the WT, all this discussion about dump loads moot. Is that true? I have got the impression that the normal export from my inverter has been wound down a bit from 3.6 kW because of the grid voltage. However that might be because of the house's demand from the inverter which can o...

Re: A project crying out to be done!
If you grid connect the WT, all this discussion about dump loads moot. The Proven is good for something like 100+mph wind iirc as its blades are sprung to present less area to the wind as wind speed exceeds maximum generation. You should grid connect the turbine in my opinion. That's a shame regardi...

Re: A project crying out to be done!
Another quick thought, unless you are very mechanically savvy, and have time to spare for tinkering with the turbine, it might be wise to look at it as an added bonus, rather than an integral part of any system. They do require maintenance and potentially expensive rebuilds too. If it sitting idle a...

Re: A project crying out to be done!
Thanks Marcus. The original set up with the WT was that the power went into an immersion heater in a 2m 3 water tank, along with a wet solar and ASHP. If the tank temp got too high then a diverter on the Proven Controller kicked in and the the power went to space heating, so the turbine didn't run ...

Re: A project crying out to be done!
You can still grid connect the turbine if you want to. MCS is needed to get FiT or a ticket to SEG payments but, iirc, the DNO will be concerned with the inverter and its properties, rather than the turbine. If you're getting a battery setup whatever, maybe it's easier to charge control the turbine ...

Re: A project crying out to be done!
I've a small grid connected WT so experience is based on that. I take it from the fact your WT is idle that you weren't/aren't set up with a FIT? And therefore don't have an MCS registered installation? What's your annual expected generation from it? If the above are the case, this limits any export...

Hydrant; https://www.avkuk.co.uk/en-gb/product-finder/hydrants/underground-hydrants/29-91-003 Fire hydrants usually have cast covers and are, for obvious reasons, easily accessible from the road so unlikely to be theirs and certainly not in service. It may imply that you have a big main running unde...

Re: Conversion of classic car to EV
I know that there are companies that will convert old classic cars to EV's by taking out the engine and fitting a EV motor and gubbins for you. I have a plan to buy an old Ford Mustang, and get it converted. In terms of environmentalness, would it be better to get a working old car, and run it unti...
